Deputies responded to a report of a male shooting a firearm at railroad signs along the railroad near W Highbanks Rd/Dutchmans Bend Rd., DeBary. A SunRail traffic engineer witnessed the incident and provided a description.

Deputies located and detained Patrick Meehan (D1), who matched the description. After being Mirandized, Patrick denied involvement but admitted possessing two firearms. FDOT provided a photograph from witness Nicholas Claes (W1) showing Patrick next to the damaged railroad sign. After viewing the photograph, Patrick admitted firing approximately ten rounds and stated he routinely shoots in the area.

Deputies located two railroad signs with fresh bullet damage and recovered 37 spent casings of various calibers. FDOT consultant advised each sign costs $750 to replace and wished to pursue charges. W1 provided a sworn written statement.

D1 was charged with Armed Trespassing (F.S.S. 810.09(2)(c)), Interfering with a Railroad Traffic Control Device Over $1,000 (F.S.S. 316.0775), and Discharging a Firearm in Public (F.S.S. 790.15). Patrick has no prior criminal history. D1 was transported to VCBJ. District 6 COC responded to the scene.

V1 and D1 were involved in an argument related to accusations of infidelity. The incident became physical when D1 punched and pushed V1 out of anger. All necessary DV paperwork was completed and digital photographs were collected. D1 was arrested and transported to jail. Case Status: CBA.

D1 armed himself with a handgun during a verbal altercation with V1 who fled the scene and called 911. V1 stated he was never in fear and D1 never pointed the firearm at him. V1 does not want to pursue. D1 left the residence before deputies arrived on scene. D1 was found to have an active 20 year-old DV protection order out of Florida that states he is not allowed to possess firearms. The order was last validated in May of 2026. D1 returned back home and was arrested then transported to jail. Case Status: CBA.

It should be noted, District 3 North took the initial report for this incident from the victim who is currently incarcerated at the Volusia County Branch Jail.

V1 reported he was arrested Aug of 2025 and turned his property over to S1 at time of arrest. S1 gained access to V1's multiple bank accounts, credit cards, and child support account without V1's permission. V1 stated he is now at a loss of roughly 30k.
