Deputies responded to the LOI regarding a business alarm. Upon arrival, it was determined that an unknown male (S1) walked past the front entrance and kicked the door, causing the glass break sensor to detach and fall to the ground. S1 then continued southbound out of the view of the digital surveillance. V1 responded to the scene and provided digital video surveillance of the incident. V1 requested that criminal charges be pursued.

V1 is a nurse at the correctional facility and D1 is an inmate. V1 was completing her medical arounds when she needed to get a blood pressure reading for D1. D1 was already agitated but once the blood pressure reading was done, D1 started demanding her medication. V1 told D1 she was not receiving medication at that time. D1 became irate and threw water on V1. V1 was not injured and video footage confirmed the incident. D1 was charged accordingly and remained at the facility.

V1, along with D1, D2, D3, and D4, are inmates housed together at the Volusia County Branch Jail. While V1 was standing in a common area and not engaging with the others, he was assaulted by D1, D2, D3, and D4. V1 sustained lacerations to his face and head.  V1 was transported by Volusia County EMS to Halifax Hospital for medical treatment. The incident was witnessed by W1 and W2.  D1, D2, D3, and D4 all admitted to the incident.  V1's parent (O1) was notified and expressed the desire to pursue criminal charges. Affidavits for all defendants have been completed, and they will remain in custody at the Volusia County Branch Jail.

S1 was identified based on prior interactions, and his identity was further confirmed by family members after being shown a digital image captured from the store's video surveillance.
