VSO ‘OCCUPANT WITH AUTISM’ DECALS AVAILABLE FOR ALL VOLUSIA COUNTY & CITY RESIDENTS
The Volusia Sheriff’s Office is proud to offer all residents of Volusia County the opportunity to display an “Occupant With Autism” decal on their home or vehicle.
This program, available to all city residents as well as those living in unincorporated Volusia County, is intended to help alert first responders to the possible presence of someone with autism who may not react or respond to questions or verbal commands in the same way as others.
In addition to the “Occupant With Autism” decal, voluntary registration in this program allows the VSO Communications Center to enter a caution flag on the home address provided.
Once that flag is entered, any call for service at that address will generate a notification for responding units that someone with autism may be present. These notifications will be available to all first responders.
Volusia Sheriff’s Office deputies continue to receive special training on best strategies and approaches for law enforcement encounters with people on the autism spectrum.
Anyone who wants to participate can sign up and choose a decal (2 versions are available) at: https://www.volusiasheriff.org/autism.stml
