VSO Detectives Seeking Deltona Man After Brother Was Shot in Leg

DELTONA MAN SOUGHT AFTER BROTHER SHOT IN LEG

A 24-year-old Deltona man is being sought after he shot his brother in the leg while handling the firearm at an apartment in Deltona. 

An arrest warrant has been issued for Nyjawaun Nae’kwon Dunn, 24 (DOB 06/1/1999).  His last known address is 2971 Day Road, Deltona, where his mother lives and where the shooting occurred Sunday afternoon.

The 23-year-old victim recovered from non-life-threatening injuries after being shot in the upper left thigh. He initially told sheriff’s deputies he didn’t know who shot him but when confronted, he eventually said Dunn was sitting in the garage watching TV and eating Chinese food while handling a black firearm. The victim was walking in and out of the garage and was exiting when he heard a gunshot, then fell to the floor in pain and shock.

Dunn helped him up then ran into the apartment to notify their mother and returned to the garage to carry the victim to their mother’s vehicle. She rushed him to the fire station at 2147 Howland Blvd. for medical treatment, where he was transported by ambulance to an area hospital.

During the investigation, detectives observed a male walking along Day Road who was later identified as Dunn. They questioned him about the shooting and he refused to talk with them.

Based on interviews of family members who were also on scene and their investigation, detectives determined Dunn was the shooter. He’s wanted for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, aggravated battery with a firearm, discharge of a firearm in public or residential property and improper exhibition of a firearm.
