On Sunday afternoon, deputies responded to a home on Fowler Drive in Deltona, where it was reported a young man armed with a large hunting knife had already injured one person and was threatening to kill 4 children who were in the house.

The first responding deputy was met by the suspect's father, who placed himself between his son and the deputy to prevent a potential shooting.

The suspect, 22-year-old Trevor Nieves-Gonzalez, ultimately threw down the knife, spit on a second responding deputy and was taken into custody following Taser deployment.

The father was treated for injuries sustained prior to deputies' arrival, including a wound to the back of his head from the knife.

Nieves-Gonzalez was charged with aggravated battery, 2 counts of aggravated assault, 4 counts of child abuse, battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer with violence.
