4 ARRESTED IN DRIVE-BY SHOOTING IN PIERSON

Four young suspects (ages 18, 15, 15, and 16) have been arrested in a drive-by shooting reported late Sunday in Pierson.

Deputies responded around 11:52 p.m. to a report of a shooting of an occupied home on Shaw Lake Road. Dispatchers relayed a suspect vehicle and tag number, and a deputy on his way to the scene spotted the red Toyota Tacoma.

The occupants were detained during a traffic stop, and deputies recovered two handguns, boxes of ammunition and additional magazines in the truck. They also found plastic bags containing spent shell casings.

The shooting left multiple bullet holes in the front of the house and an interior wall. One round struck a television in a bedroom. There were no injuries reported.

Zared Castaneda (18), Jesus Castaneda (15), Angel Ruiz-Rios (15), and Brian Hernandez (16), all of DeLand, were charged with firing into an occupied dwelling, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, and firing a weapon in public or on residential property.

The juveniles were additionally charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a minor, and Zared Castaneda was also charged with 3 counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail with no bond. The others were transported to the Volusia Family Resource Center for processing and then turned over to the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice.
