Update: 2 Teens Arrested on Weapons Charges in Deltona Shooting

CASE UPDATE (6/6/25): Two Deltona 17-year-olds have been arrested on weapons charges as the investigation into last night’s shooting in Deltona continues.

Through witness interviews and multiple angles of video surveillance footage, detectives determined what led to the shooting around 6:46 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot of High Sense Smoke Shop at 2820 Howland Blvd.

The 19-year-old who was shot was approaching another group of young men with a gun in his hand when the shooter pulled his own handgun and fired at him, striking him in the face.

The 17-year-old shooter, Geiziel Vazquez, is charged with possession of a firearm by a minor and carrying a concealed firearm.

The shooting victim’s younger brother, 17-year-old Marco Barillas, who was also present for the incident, picked up his brother’s gun after the shooting and hid it in a wooded area nearby. (See attached photo.) He is charged with possession of a firearm by a minor, tampering with evidence, and violation of probation.

The shooting victim was transported to an area hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges are possible pending the outcome.

SHOOTING INVESTIGATION: VSO detectives are investigating a shooting in Deltona tonight that injured a 19-year-old male victim.

Deputies responded to the call in the parking lot of 2820 Howland Blvd. around 6:46 p.m. and located the victim with a gunshot wound near his mouth. He was alert and talking on scene but was transported to an area hospital as a trauma alert.

Detectives are pursuing leads in the investigation and an update will be posted when available.
