Three arrested in armed robbery investigation in Deltona

Two people have been charged in connection with an armed robbery late last month in Deltona. An interesting development in the investigation came when it was learned the 16-year-old victim who reported the crime was violating probation and failed to disclose he was meeting up with the suspect to purchase a firearm. 

The victim told detectives he was robbed at gunpoint while meeting with an acquaintance, 15-year-old Izrell Perez, on July 29, on McClellan Street. The victim said the driver of the vehicle pointed a firearm at his head while Perez demanded and took the cash. Perez was arrested at his house the next day and charged with robbery with a firearm.

Detectives identified Clayton Hencken, 18, as also being involved in the robbery. Hencken was taken into custody yesterday on a charge of robbery with a firearm while masked.

Additionally, the victim was arrested Friday and charged with violation of probation for leaving his house during the meet-up with Perez which happened after his curfew. Detectives also determined the victim deleted text messages to conceal he was attempting to purchase a firearm that evening.

The victim’s dad was also arrested while picking him up from the Family Resource Center after it was discovered he had an open writ.
