A 17-month-old boy who was rushed to the hospital after falling into a backyard pool Monday in Deltona passed away last night.
Deputies responded to the home in the 400 block of Leland Drive after the boy’s mother found him face down in the pool as the family was getting ready to go to the beach. The boy’s mom pulled him from the pool and immediately began CPR until deputies and paramedics arrived.
She estimates it has been approximately three minutes since she had last seen the boy, and she believes he slipped out through a sliding glass door that was accidentally left open.
The boy was taken to an Orange City hospital before being transferred to an Orlando Hospital for further care. Despite days of medical interventions, the boy was taken off life support last night. At this time, detectives do not believe foul play was involved and this was an accidental drowning.
The Volusia Sheriff’s Office sends its heartfelt sympathies to the boy’s loved ones.
