DELAND MAN CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED STALKING OF AIR ONE CREW

A DeLand man with a history of threatening to shoot down the Volusia Sheriff’s Office helicopter has been arrested again after approaching the hangar and screaming at the Air One crew.

Robert Moni, 59 (DOB 2/4/1964), of Newport Avenue in DeLand, was arrested Sunday night on 3 counts of aggravated stalking.

The latest encounter with Moni at the Air One hangar was Saturday, when he showed up screaming at the crew and staff. At one point, Moni moved in front of the building and continued yelling while a crew member was with his family in the parking lot. Moni made several statements about the Sheriff’s Office employees being evil, adding that “the devil is going to kill you, and I am going to help.”

The crew is familiar with Moni from previous encounters, some stemming from Moni’s belief that helicopters are part of a conspiracy spying on him and/or causing him concussions by flying over his home.

In 2018, Moni was arrested after calling an Orlando news station and threatening to shoot down Air One.

Moni was booked at the Volusia County Branch Jail on his new charges Sunday night and remains held without bond pending first appearance.
