The executive director of a DeBary senior living facility has been arrested on charges of stealing jewelry from a resident, and detectives are looking to identify other potential victims.
This case began after an engagement ring was reported missing from a resident’s bedroom at Arya senior living in DeBary. Video surveillance showed Executive Director Shaun Burstein entering the unoccupied room, going to the area of the jewelry box, and leaving shortly afterward. Additional footage captured a separate incident in which Burstein attempted to open the jewelry box before noticing the camera and leaving.
Detectives reviewed pawn records that revealed Burstein sold multiple pieces of jewelry, including the stolen engagement ring, which was positively identified and placed on hold. Pawn documentation and a fingerprint confirmed Burstein’s involvement in the sale of the stolen engagement ring.
During an interview, Burstein admitted to stealing jewelry from multiple residents and selling the items at local pawn shops. Records show he sold more than 93 pieces of jewelry between September 23, 2025, and December 30, 2025.
The investigation is ongoing and at this time only one victim has been identified. If you or a family member believe you may be a victim, contact Detective Patel at ANPatel@volusiasheriff.gov.
Burstein, 45, of Sanford, turned himself in Friday to face his charges of dealing in stolen property and theft from a person 65 years of age or older.
