Date Added: April 20, 2026 2:04 pm

Sad news to report: A 75-year-old man drowned Saturday morning in DeBary after getting caught on a rope and falling into the water as he prepared to go boating.

Deputies responded to Sher Lane around 10:27 a.m. after someone found the victim’s body in the water between two boats. The victim’s left leg was wrapped around a rope that was being used to secure the boat to the dock.

The victim was identified as Jerry Capo, of DeBary. Capo’s son arrived on scene and said he and his dad were planning to go out on the boat.

There were no signs of foul play during the investigation, and it was determined the incident was accidental in nature.

The Sheriff’s Office sends sincere condolences to Jerry’s loved ones.
