16-YEAR-OLD ARRESTED IN SHOOTING THAT INJURED 1 AT DELTONA PARK

After a thorough investigation, a 16-year-old suspect in a recent shooting at Dwight Hawkins Park in Deltona has been identified and arrested.

Detectives determined the Jan. 15 shooting occurred inside an SUV at the park. A responding deputy found the victim seated on a park bench, immediately applied a tourniquet and provided first aid until Deltona Fire Rescue arrived on scene. The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment

The investigation revealed that at the time of the shooting, the victim was in the driver’s seat of the SUV and the suspect, Anthoney Martinez (DOB 6/10/2007), was in the seat behind him. The victim and witnesses told detectives the shooting was accidental.

Deltona Crime Suppression Team deputies located and arrested Martinez on Tuesday night. He is charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm, possession of a firearm by a juvenile, and discharging a firearm from a vehicle.

Martinez was taken to the Volusia Family Resource Center for processing (pictured here) and then transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
