UPDATE: The shooter in this morning's DeLand-area shooting has been arrested on charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault, in addition to his active warrants for transmission of harmful material to a minor.

The defendant, 41-year-old Anselmo Salazar, is in custody with no bond at the Volusia County Branch Jail.

The investigation into the shooting indicated the defendant shot his 47-year-old roommate following a night of drinking. The victim was shot in the face and hip. He was treated on scene by responding deputies, police, and EMS, then transported to an area hospital, where he was later listed in critical but stable condition.

The defendant was taken into custody without incident at the scene. Due to his status as an undocumented immigrant, ICE has been notified of his arrest.

Early Sunday morning, deputies and DeLand police responded to a shooting reported on the 1500 block of West New York Avenue, DeLand.

On arrival shortly after 5 a.m., units found an adult male victim lying in the carport outside the residence, conscious but injured with gunshot wounds.

Units administered first aid and worked to stop the victim's bleeding before he was transported to an area hospital, where he was expected to survive.

Deputies also contacted the suspected shooter on scene and detained him without incident. Witnesses who had fled the shooting were contacted at the nearby Winn Dixie parking lot. VSO detectives responded to both scenes to continue the investigation, which remains active at this time.
