2017 CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY

The Port Orange Police Department is currently accepting applications for its 2017 Citizens Police Academy. The Citizens Police Academy is an education program created for the residents of Port Orange with the goal of creating a greater familiarization with the operation of the Port Orange Police Department and its personnel. The academy will meet on Monday evenings from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. for 9 weeks, starting on January 30th, 2017 and on one Saturday morning (TBD) for a live-fire handgun safety course. Representatives from the police department will instruct a different subject each week with the goal creating greater understanding of modern policing and its challenges. Participants will have the opportunity to view demonstrations of various police practices and equipment typically not afforded to the general public. The class is FREE, but limited to the first 40 eligible participants. The deadline for all applications is January 16th, 2017.
