 POLICE INVESTIGATING AFTER 84 CATS, 1 DOG FOUND IN WOMAN'S HOME 

On January 5, 2017 at approximately 9:30 am Port Orange Police responded to 5056 Riverside Drive, Port Orange in reference to a medical related call.  Upon arriving on scene officers found the apartment in poor condition and numerous cats living inside. The resident, a 49 year old woman, was transported to Halifax Hospital for treatment. Due to concerns for the health and safety of the animals, Port Orange Animal Control was contacted and responded to the scene.

Between January 5, 2017 and January 6, 2017 Port Orange Animal Control, along with assistance from other area Animal Control, successfully removed 84 cats and one dog from the residence.  These animals were transported to the Halifax Humane Society for care and treatment.
