On December 17th, 2016, the Port Orange Police Department, in partnership with the Port Orange Elks Lodge #2723, Target, and Chick Fil A are hosting their 2nd annual Shop with a Cop. The holidays come but once a year and many children spend hours, days or even months creating their wish lists for Santa. But for some boys and girls, their holiday wishes may not come true.

The Shop with a Cop program helps build a positive relationship by pairing officers from the Port Orange Police Department with deserving elementary school students as they shop for holiday gifts for themselves and family members. The premise for this is simple, kids who have a good relationship with local law enforcement officers are less likely to get into trouble with the law, and are more likely to seek help from police when they need it. It is our hope that Shop with a Cop will break down some of the barriers between the community and the police, helping deserving families and building many new friendships.
