PORT ORANGE BOY DIES AFTER ACCIDENTALLY SHOOTING HIMSELF
On July 15th, 2016 at approximately 1144hrs Port Orange Officers responded to a 911 call in reference to an 8yoa male child shot and CPR in progress. Upon arrival it was confirmed that the 8 yoa child suffered a gunshot wound to the upper torso area and his 12 yoa brother was performing CPR with the assistance of a neighbor. The children were in the home with their great grandfather who is 80 yoa in another bedroom when the incident occurred. It is believed at this time in the investigation it was a self-inflicted wound with a 9mm handgun. It is still being investigated as to where the firearm was originally located in the home.
The child was transported to Daytona Beach Halifax Hospital and unfortunately was pronounced deceased at 1253 hrs on today’s date. The mother has been contacted and the family is cooperative with the investigation.
