MAN DIES IN BOATING ACCIDENT IN DUCK LAKE
Yesterday evening at 7:57:00 PM, Orange City Police responded to Duck Lake off of Veterans Memorial Parkway in Orange City in reference to a male who fell out of a canoe. Ricki Long, 62 years old of Orange City was with a friend when the canoe over turned and both subjects fell into the water. They tried to turn the canoe back upright to no avail. The victim had a stoma from a previous tracheotomy and was unable to stay afloat. The friend pulled him to shore. He and arriving officers attempted CPR but unfortunately the victim was already deceased. The medical examiner responded and took custody of the body.
Orange City detectives are working with the ME’s office regarding this unfortunate drowning.
The investigation thus far indicates this was accidental, however the investigation is ongoing. Additional information concerning this investigation will be updated as it becomes available.
