DRIVER KILLED IN DELTONA CRASH

A driver was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Deltona overnight.

Deputies and firefighters responded to the crash around 2 a.m. at the intersection of Cloverleaf Boulevard and Anderson Drive. The adult male driver was trapped in the vehicle, which was engulfed in flames. Firefighters extinguished the flames, but the driver was declared deceased minutes later. He was the only occupant of the vehicle.

The initial investigation of the crash indicates the maroon Chevrolet Traverse was eastbound on Cloverleaf at a high rate of speed when it ran the stop sign at Anderson and went over the curb for the median at the entrance to the Twin Lakes subdivision. The SUV then struck a tree and caught fire.

The  crash investigation will continue. The likely identity of the driver is known, but release of his name is pending positive identification.

Update: The driver was Jeffrey Paul Williams, 39 (DOB 5/17/1980), of Deltona.
