POLICE INVESTIGATING SUSPICIOUS DEATH AFTER REMAINS FOUND

Police are investigating a suspicious death following the discovery of human remains Saturday night.

At about 10:57 p.m. Saturday, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Dispatch Center received a 911 call from a concerned citizen regarding possible human remains.

The concerned citizen told authorities he was off-roading in a wooded area near County Road 4139 and West McKenzie Road, when he came across what appeared to be possible human skeletal remains.

DeLand Police detectives responded to the area and confirmed the findings to be of a white male, identity and age unknown. The remains were removed from the scene pending an autopsy, scheduled for Monday morning, to determine the identity and cause of death.
