DELAND POLICE INVESTIGATING FATALITY AT SKYDIVE DELAND

Update: 07/14/17 - 8:28 a.m.

The victim has been identified as Vitantonio Capotorto. I have attached an updated incident report with the names not redacted, though the investigation is still open. Please note that the incident report has the victim’s name in reverse order.

Update: 2:25 p.m.

At this time, it does not appear that the parachute malfunctioned. An autopsy has been scheduled and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are also attempting to contact the male’s family.

Update: 11:44 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing, but we can confirm the man was found wearing parachute equipment and it appeared to be partially deployed. The circumstances surrounding his death are still under investigation.

DeLand Police are investigating a fatality at Skydive DeLand.

Authorities responded at about 10:08 a.m. Tuesday after a male, who is not being identified at this time, was found deceased near Skydive DeLand.

This is an ongoing investigation.
