SHERIFF JOHNSON TAPS TWO FOR PROMOTION

A well-rounded deputy with a wide range of law enforcement skills, Dana White can catch the crooks on the ground, in the water and from in the air. A 17-year veteran with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, White has been tapped for promotion -- elevated to the rank of lieutenant during a ceremony Tuesday morning in Daytona Beach. Eric Westfall also was promoted to the rank of sergeant during Tuesday’s ceremony.

After serving a stint with the Daytona Beach Police Department, Lieutenant White joined the Sheriff’s Office in 1987. He has served in road patrol and as a marine deputy along with assignments on the dive team and a flight paramedic helping to enforce the law from aboard the agency’s helicopter fleet. Lieutenant White also has served on the SWAT team and has put his paramedic skills to good use during several incidents where he was credited with saving lives. And with each new assignment, Lieutenant White gained a reputation for reliability and high standards of professionalism. “You’re always there. We can always count on you,” Sheriff Ben Johnson said as he presented the 44-year-old White with his lieutenant’s bars during a ceremony at the agency’s Deputy Stephen Saboda Training Center. “You’re so versatile in all that you do. You’ve earned this promotion. You deserve it.”

Sergeant Westfall has been with the Sheriff’s Office for 11 years, spending much of his time as a traffic enforcement deputy in the department’s Deltona-based motors unit. Among other assignments, the 31-year-old Sergeant Westfall worked in the civil section and road patrol. Sergeant Westfall has excelled in his assignment on the motors squad, where he is considered a natural leader and one of the most productive members of the team. “It’s an honor to promote you,” Sheriff Johnson told Sergeant Westfall. “You’ve done a great job.”
