Coronavirus precautions at the Volusia Sheriff's Office
The Volusia Sheriff’s Office is planning reasonable precautions to limit the spread of coronavirus while still providing the highest possible level of service to the community.
Because our deputies and employees routinely interact with the public at large, we are working to mitigate the potential for transmission of coronavirus through interactions with law enforcement. The measures described below are subject to change depending on changing conditions.
In an emergency, always call 911.
For certain non-emergency calls in which no immediate threat to safety exists, and where no suspect has been identified, please take advantage of our Call a Deputy service. Starting Monday, we plan to increase the number of deputies available at all district offices to take your report over the phone or at the front desk of the district. When you call in to speak with a deputy, you will also be asked to fill out a witness statement form available here. Note: Please do not sign the form until you turn it in at the district office.
As always, for any law enforcement, fire or medical issue, you can also call in to our Communications Center via 911 or on the non-emergency line at 386-248-1777.
When you call our Communications Center with a medical issue, you may be asked:
Have you traveled outside of the country to any of the countries listed below or had contact with anyone who has traveled to any of these countries in the last 14 days?
- China
- Iran
- Italy
- Japan
- South Korea
If the answer is yes:
Information will be documented in the call notes, responding units will be notified over the radio and the shift supervisor will also be notified.

In an effort to limit potential exposure and eventual transmission to other members of our community, deputies and detectives responding to your call may ask you to step outside of your home when possible. This approach will not apply in an emergency situation in which immediate entry is necessary.
Again, as conditions change and more information becomes available, the Sheriff’s Office will continue to assess and adjust as the situation requires.
