DELTONA MAN, 31, KILLED IN WEEKEND CRASH; MOTORCYCLIST SERIOUSLY INJURED

Volusia sheriff’s detectives are investigating a crash that killed a 31-year-old Deltona man over the weekend and seriously injured a motorcyclist.

The accident occurred around 12:30 a.m. Saturday in the 3100 block of Howland Boulevard in Deltona. A 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle and a 2013 Volkswagen sedan were both traveling on Howland Boulevard near Red Fox Run.

Preliminary investigation shows the motorcycle was struck from the rear by the sedan. The motorcyclist, a 47-year-old man, was knocked off the bike, which was dragged as the sedan continued, crossing the median and crashing into the building of Mister Car Wash on the opposite side of Howland Boulevard.

Deltona Fire Rescue officials pronounced the sedan driver, Matthew Davis, deceased at the scene. The motorcyclist was located lying on the ground in front of Advent Health Deltona hospital. He was airlifted to an area hospital where he is recovering from multiple injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
