VSO INVESTIGATING AFTER MALE PEDESTRIAN, 34, STRUCK, KILLED CROSSING HOWLAND BLVD.

A 34-year-old Orange City man was killed Wednesday night after being struck by two vehicles while he walked across Howland Boulevard in Deltona.

The victim has been identified as Andrew J. Valdes.

Preliminary evidence indicates the victim crossed Howland outside the crosswalk from the west side when he was struck by a 2004 Pontiac station wagon traveling northbound on Howland.  The driver tried to stop but struck the victim with the left side of his car’s front bumper.

The impact knocked the victim into the southbound lane of Howland, where he was struck by a second vehicle, a Mitsubishi SUV, while lying in the roadway. Valdes was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene to investigate. Neither driver appeared to be impaired and both agreed to have their blood drawn.

The Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Investigation Unit is continuing to actively investigate this crash.
