MIMS COUPLE DIES IN MOTORCYCLE CRASH IN OAK HILL

Volusia sheriff’s deputies are investigating a weekend crash that killed a husband and wife who were riding a motorcycle in Oak Hill.

The crash occurred about 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the 480 block of U.S. 1 and Golden Bay Boulevard. The male driver and female rider, identified as Richard Parsons, 64, and Michelle Parsons, 52, of Mims, were traveling southbound in the outside lane on a 2015 black Harley-Davidson. For an unknown reason, the motorcycle swerved off the roadway on the right shoulder and struck a pole, knocking both riders off the motorcycle and into the road.

Moments after the crash, a truck traveling southbound on U.S. 1 struck the female rider on the road. Despite lifesaving efforts at the scene, both victims were pronounced deceased.

The driver of the truck stopped at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. She did not show any signs of impairment and is not facing any charges at this time in what appears to have been a tragic accident following the initial motorcycle crash.

A thorough crash investigation is active and ongoing.
