DEBARY MOTORCYCLIST, 24, DIES IN WEEKEND CRASH

A 24-year-old DeBary man was killed over the weekend in a traffic crash when an SUV turned into the motorcycle’s path, causing the motorcycle to collide head-on with the SUV.

Nicholas Gonzalez was driving his 2005 Honda motorcycle north on Enterprise Road toward Pond Court in DeBary on Friday just after 4:30 p.m. The driver of the SUV was driving southbound on Enterprise and failed to yield for the motorcycle while turning left.

The collision caused Gonzalez to be ejected from the motorcycle, then strike the hood of a third vehicle that was stopped at the intersection of Pond Court and Enterprise. The victim landed on a grassy area on the road’s shoulder.

Gonzalez was treated for his injuries at the scene and transported to Central Florida Regional Medical Center in Sanford where he was pronounced deceased. The SUV’s driver and passenger sustained minor cuts and bruises in the crash. The third driver was not injured.

Volusia Sheriff’s investigators are investigating this crash. The initial investigation did not indicate any signs of impairment.
