VIDEO: DEPUTIES, FIREFIGHTERS, WITNESSES RESCUE UNCONSCIOUS DRIVER IN PARTIALLY SUBMERGED SUV
After an SUV veered off the road and overturned in the water Tuesday in Oak Hill, Volusia deputies, firefighters and witnesses worked together to push it upright and pull the driver to safety.
Deputies and Volusia County firefighters responded to the crash around 12:20 p.m. off Maytown Road west of Cedar Chase Road and found the SUV on its side in a ditch filled with about 3 feet of water. The driver’s side was submerged, with the female driver still inside and unconscious.
She still had a pulse, and after life-saving measures were performed on scene, she was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, where she was listed in critical condition Wednesday afternoon.
The Florida Highway Patrol is handling the crash investigation.
