DELAND-AREA DRUG DEALER ARRESTED; NARCOTICS, WEAPONS SEIZED

A narcotics investigation that began earlier this year culminated in the arrest of a DeLand-area drug dealer Thursday, with detectives searching his home and discovering trafficking amounts of fentanyl and other drugs, as well as several guns and more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition, all within reach of children in the house.

Wynell Pitts, 38 (DOB 11/25/1984), of Newport Avenue, DeLand, was arrested Thursday morning in a takedown after he dropped his child off at daycare and then appeared to complete two drug transactions from his vehicle. For safety reasons, detectives who had him under surveillance at the time elected to wait until he left the daycare facility to approach and place him under arrest.

Pitts was arrested on his active warrant for sale and delivery of fentanyl within 1,000 feet of a middle school. During a search of the vehicle, detectives recovered:

  • 21.6 grams fentanyl (97 fentanyl pills)
  • 18.8 grams cocaine
  • 4.4 grams crack cocaine
  • 8.3 grams methamphetamine
  • 23 Suboxone films
  • 27 Dilaudid pills
  • 7 Hydrocodone pills
  • 42 Oxycodone pills
  • 77 Alprazolam pills
  • 5 Clonazepam pills
  • 18 Amphetamine pills
  • 40 grams cannabis
  • 1 cell phone
  • $376 U.S. currency

Detectives, SWAT and members of the East and West Volusia Narcotics Task Forces, Deltona Narcotics Enforcement Team and Volusia Bureau of Investigation then executed a search warrant at Pitts’ residence and recovered:

  • 18.8 grams fentanyl
  • 1.6 grams crack cocaine
  • 147 grams/240 Hydrocodone pills
  • 1.6 grams MDMA
  • 1,055.9 grams cannabis
  • 15 grams Psilocybin
  • Unknown make/model rifle
  • S&W MP22 rife
  • Mossberg 12g shotgun
  • Dragonoff 7.62 rifle
  • ERA Shotgun
  • SKS 7.62 rifle
  • Ruger 9mm
  • US Charter Arms 38 cal revolver
  • Glock 27 40cal
  • Glock 17 9mm
  • RG23 22 cal revolver
  • Jimenez Arms 380 cal handgun
  • $4,497 U.S. currency
  • $606 Dominican currency
  • Miscellaneous jewelry
  • Drug ledger
  • 2 cell phones

All firearms found in the residence were readily accessible to children, with no trigger locks. The various drugs, including fentanyl, prescription narcotics, cocaine and psilocybin, were also easily accessible by children.

Pitts was arrested on the following charges stemming from the traffic stop:

  1. Trafficking fentanyl 14-28 grams ($500,000 bond)
  2. Possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute ($10,000 bond)
  3. Possession of powder cocaine with intent to distribute ($10,000 bond)
  4. Possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute ($10,000 bond)
  5. Possession of Suboxone with intent to distribute ($10,000 bond)
  6. Possession of Schedule IV substance with intent to distribute ($10,000 bond)
  7. Possession of Schedule II substance with intent to distribute ($10,000 bond)
  8. Possession of paraphernalia ($5,000 bond)
  9. Possession of cannabis with intent to distribute ($10,000 bond)

Total bond amount: $580,000

Pitts and his wife Antiqua Pitts (DOB 6/26/1987) were also each arrested on the following charges stemming from the residential search warrant:

  1. Armed trafficking fentanyl 14 -28 grams ($500,000 bond)
  2. Armed trafficking Hydrocodone ($500,000 bond)
  3. Child neglect (no bond)
  4. Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon ($5,000 bond)
  5. Possession of ammunition by a convicted felon ($5,000 bond)
  6. Possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute ($10,000 bond)
  7. Possession of cannabis with intent to distribute ($10,000 bond)
  8. Possession of synthetic cannabis ($10,000 bond)
  9. Possession of Psilocybin with intent to distribute ($10,000 bond)
  10. Possession of MDMA ($5,000 bond)
  11. Possession of Schedule IV substance ($5,000 bond)
  12. Rent a structure/conveyance for drug trafficking ($25,000 bond)

Total bond amount: $1,090,000 each
