WEEKEND CRASH KILLS DELTONA MAN, 48

A Deltona man was killed over the weekend after the vehicle he was riding in collided head-on with another vehicle on Lake Helen Osteen Road in Deltona.

Candido Soto Jr., 48, was a passenger in a silver Dodge SUV traveling northwest in the 2900 block of Lake Helen Osteen Road just before 11 a.m. Saturday.

The preliminary investigation indicates the driver of an oncoming blue Ford Mustang appeared to experience a medical episode, causing him to lose consciousness while driving. The Mustang ran off the right side of the roadway, then re-entered the road, crossing over the center line and into oncoming traffic.

The two vehicles collided head-on in the northbound lane of the roadway.

Soto was transported to AdventHealth Deltona where he was pronounced deceased. Three other victims of the crash were transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries considered non-threatening.

The Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene and Traffic Homicide units responded to the scene. This crash remains an active investigation.
