UPDATED: Man Shot, Killed In Domestic Disturbance In Orange City Area; Self-Defense Apparent

Update: The deceased is Jason A Sargent, 43 (DOB 2/14/1975). The shooter is Marc G. Lemay, 58 (DOB 3/28/1960). The address for both is 720 Highland Drive, Orange City, where this morning’s shooting took place. The results of the preliminary Sheriff’s Office investigation indicate that Lemay fired at Sargent in self-defense during a physical altercation. Lemay and witness Faith Alexander (Lemay’s girlfriend and Sargent’s mother) told VCSO detectives Sargent (240 pounds) was physically attacking Lemay (170 pounds) when the shooting occurred. No charges have been filed at this time. The Sheriff’s Office will be in consultation with the State Attorney’s Office before a final determination is made.

MAN SHOT, KILLED IN DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE IN ORANGE CITY AREA; DETECTIVES INTERVIEWING SHOOTER

A man was shot and killed during a domestic disturbance early this morning at a home in the Orange City area, and Volusia County sheriff’s detectives are investigating the circumstances.

The shooting was reported around 3:30 a.m. at 720 Highland Drive, Orange City. Responding deputies and Orange City police officers found the shooting victim inside the home. A deputy performed CPR on the victim until Orange City Fire Rescue and EVAC paramedics arrived on scene.

The shooter, who is the boyfriend of the adult male victim’s mother, remained on scene after the shooting.

Detectives are continuing to conduct interviews this morning. No further information is available at this time, but updates will be provided as they become available.
