For the past five years, if there was a criminal case in Volusia County involving farm animals, including theft or abuse and neglect, or hunting crimes, one person has been there. That's Deputy Danny Clifton, of the Volusia County Sheriff's Agricultural Crimes Unit.

He's been a member of the Florida Agricultural Crimes Intelligence Unit, a statewide organization where law-enforcement officers involved in such work can share information and training.

Clifton was elected president of the organization during a statewide seminar last month.

He said, “I’m very proud to be the new president.”

With next year's seminar to take place in Volusia County, Clifton wants it to be “the biggest and best conference ever and a showcase for the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office and our county.”

Clifton will serve a one-year term as president.

He has worked for the Sheriff's Office for a total of nine years.
