Volusia County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Brian Henderson was among 230 law enforcement officers who recently graduated from the prestigious FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va. The 263rd Session of the National Academy consisted of men and women from 47 states, the District of Columbia, 27 international countries, four military organizations and five federal civilian organizations.

The graduation ceremony took place on March 18. Himself a graduate of the FBI Academy, Sheriff Ben Johnson said he was very proud of Lieutenant Henderson. “Brian should be commended for his dedication and commitment to the highest standards of the law enforcement profession,” Sheriff Johnson said of the 33-year-old Henderson, who has been with the Sheriff’s Office for 14 years.

Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy program offers 10 weeks of advanced communications, leadership and fitness training for selected officers having proven records as professionals within their agencies. More than 49,000 people have graduated from the FBI National Academy since it began in 1935. Academy graduates often return to their agencies to serve in executive-level positions. “This is the type of advanced training that helps position the Sheriff’s Office to meet the challenges of the future,” added Sheriff Johnson.
