Arrest Made In Fatal Hit And Run Accident

ARREST MADE IN FATAL HIT AND RUN ACCIDENT

On August 1st, 2017 at approximately 0210 AM, Orange City Police responded to the area of Highway 17-92 just south of Enterprise Rd, in reference to a young female in the road that was possibly struck by a motor vehicle. Arriving officers attempted CPR until fire / rescue personnel arrived who pronounced the female deceased. The female is identified as a 14-year-old local resident, who was in possession of a skateboard and other misc property.

Approx 0224 AM law enforcement received a call in reference to a vehicle that may have hit an animal. Upon further investigation the driver, identified as Walter J Gunther (DOB 09-09-1986), admitted he was driving the van, with a suspended driver’s license. Gunther was placed under arrest at the Orange City Police department without incident following an interview. Gunther will be transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail on charges of; Leaving the scene of a crash involving death and Driving on a suspended drivers license, total bond amount of $15,500.
