DELAND POLICE INVESTIGATING SHOOTING THAT DAMAGED AGENCY VEHICLES

Police are investigating a shooting this weekend that damaged three agency vehicles.

On Sunday morning, officers were notified that the agency's Police Athletic League van had a flat tire. Upon inspecting the vehicle, it was found that a bullet had struck the right rear door of the van and through the bench seats inside.

The van had recently been purchased through a joint effort with The House Next Door and is utilized to transport elementary-aged children to the House Next Door's tutoring program. Here is an article about the van.

A spare K-9 vehicle, Crime Scene van and Community Service Aide vehicle also sustained varying degrees of damage.

Residents nearby that were later interviewed told police they heard gunshots about 2:30 a.m. Sunday and then a vehicle with a "loud muffler" driving away.

The investigation is ongoing.

If anyone has information on the shooting, they may submit a tip online here.
