AIRPORT BUSINESS OWNER ARRESTED IN THEFTS

Over the past several months, DeLand Police Department detectives have been conducting an investigation of JL Aircraft Services.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the owner and operator Joseph Lippo had been removing functional parts from planes, installing them in other planes, and charging the owners for replacement parts in the original planes.

The thefts of these parts are estimated to be well over $50,000. It was also uncovered that Lippo was possibly fraudulently charging victims for services and repairs to aircraft that were never completed. Police are still determining the value of the fraudulent charges, but at this time appears to be in the tens of thousands of dollars.

On Wednesday, October 17, DeLand Police Department detectives and officers arrested and charged in two cases. He was charged with theft of more than $10,000 from a person 65 years or older and grand theft in a separate case.

More information will be released as it becomes available.

The DeLand PD is asking anyone who have been a victim in a case involving Lippo to contact DeLand PD at 386-626-7400.
