DRUG TAKEBACK DAY SCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER 28

The DeLand Police Department will be participating in Saturday’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, October 28, the DeLand Police Department will accept any unused or expired prescription drugs. The collection site will be in the parking lot in front of the police department, 219 West Howry Avenue.

During April’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, more than 4,200 agencies collected 900,386 lbs. of prescription drugs, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

If people are unable to make it to the take back day, here are some tips on how to dispose of the drugs:

  • Remove the medicine from its original container and and mix it with an undesirable substance like coffee grounds or cat litter.
  • Place the mixture in a sealable bag.
  • Scratch out all identifying information on the presciption drug to make it unreadable.
