DAYTONA BEACH SHORES INVESTIGATORS MAKE HOMICIDE ARREST

On Thursday, October 26th, 2017, investigators of the Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety made an arrest in the murder of Olympia Cerruti. Cerruti, a 34-year-old mother of three, was found stabbed in the early morning of September 22nd in a room at the Hawaiian Inn.

Detectives obtained a warrant for the arrest of Darron Woodberry, 25, of South Daytona for Second Degree Murder, with $250,000 bond. Woodberry was arrested at U.S. Foods where he worked without incident. He was turned over to the Volusia County Branch Jail where he awaits first appearance.

Woodberry was stopped by Officer Darius DeBarros around 4:30 a.m. on September 22nd for speeding as he left the area of the Hawaiian Inn. Nearly an hour later Officer DeBarros was dispatched to the Hawaiian Inn where he made resuscitative efforts in an attempt to save Cerruti. Ultimately those attempts were unsuccessful.

Director Stephan L. Dembinsky said, “This was just a matter of a young officer out here in the middle of the night doing good police work, which led us to our suspect.”

Investigators were able to identify Woodberry by matching him to surveillance video at the Hawaiian Inn and Officer DeBarros’ body-worn camera. During the subsequent investigation Woodberry has been tied to Cerruti and the scene through phone and text records, as well as biological evidence.

“Our detectives have been working on this case around the clock. They wouldn’t stop until they could make this arrest,” said Dembinsky.
