16 Arrested During Southeast Volusia Sex Offender Checks

16 ARRESTED DURING SOUTHEAST VOLUSIA SEX OFFENDER CHECKS

Volusia sheriff’s deputies and detectives arrested 16 sex offenders Thursday evening in an operation designed to ensure they were in compliance with their registration requirements.

The operation, conducted with the help of the U.S. Marshals Service and FDLE, focused on the areas of Port Orange, New Smyrna Beach, Edgewater and Oak Hill. In all, about 80 checks were made.

Remember, the Sheriff’s Office offers public notifications about sex offenders and predators through the free OffenderWatch system. Anyone can sign up for alerts at http://www.sheriffalerts.com/cap_main.php?office=54328. Offenders move frequently, so instead of having to check the maps on a weekly basis, this system allows you to register any address in Volusia County and receive an email alert if an offender registers within a certain range of that address. There’s no limit to the number of addresses you can register. You can register your home, school, work, gym, day care, park, soccer field, parents or children's homes – any address of interest to you.

The sex offenders arrested during Thursday’s operation were:

• William Jeffrey Scott, 61 (DOB 3/3/1958), 1217 Pearl St., New Smyrna Beach
  Failure to properly register (vehicle)
  Original conviction: Lewd/lascivious sexual battery, victim under 16 (1991, Volusia County)
   
• Thomas Harry Lenahan, 64 (DOB 5/23/1955), 1305 James St., New Smyrna Beach
  Failure to properly register (vehicle)
  Original conviction: Lewd/lascivious offense, victim under 16 (1992, Volusia County)
   
• Robert Dame Spivey, 58 (DOB 7/1/1961), 1108 Canal St., New Smyrna Beach
  Failure to properly register (Facebook account)
  Original convictions: 4 counts indecent exposure (2004, Horry County, South Carolina); lewd/lascivious exhibition, victim under 16 (2013, Volusia County)
   
• Shawn Lester Ault, 47 (DOB 9/30/1972), 1941 Teton Lane, Port Orange
  2 counts, failure to properly register (vehicle and license plate)
  Original conviction: Lewd assault/sexual battery, victim under 16 (2000, Putnam County)
   
• Larry Nipper, 69 (DOB 7/27/1950), 1200 Volco Road, Edgewater
  Failure to properly register (vehicle); violation of probation
  Original convictions: Lewd/lascivious molestation, victim 12-15; lewd/lascivious conduct, victim under 16 (2011, Broward County); failure to comply with registration requirements (2019, Volusia County)
   
• Steven Paul Morgan, 60 (DOB 1/25/1960), 285 E. Ariel Road, Oak Hill
