FLEEING 113 MPH DRIVER ARRESTED AS DEPUTIES COMPLETE 3-DAY TRAFFIC OPERATION

Deputies wrapped up a 3-day traffic operation in and around City of Deltona, Florida today with a stop stick hit on a fleeing vehicle.

This BMW X3 was hitting speeds of 113 mph when it fled from a deputy on I-4. After a successful stop stick hit at Orange Camp Road, the BMW got back on I-4 with two flattened tires and didn't make it very far.

The driver, who was found to be a convicted felon, threw a handgun into the woods, which was recovered later by a VSO K-9 unit. Deputies also recovered cocaine, oxycodone, MDMA, alprazolam, and marijuana from inside the rented vehicle, along with a total of 165 rounds of ammunition.

Kevin Olivo Rivera (DOB 11/1/1994) of Kissimmee was charged with aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude, armed trafficking of the drugs mentioned above, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting an officer without violence, tampering with evidence, driving with a suspended license (habitual), and numerous traffic citations.

The defendant, who is on Florida inmate release status for an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon conviction in Orange County, was also charged with violation of probation in a prior case of fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement.

Over the course of the 3-day traffic operation, deputies made 619 traffic stops, issuing 562 citations and 33 criminal citations. They made 36 misdemeanor arrests, 8 felony arrests, 8 narcotics arrests and towed 10 vehicles.
